Why window locks matter
An unlocked window, or one held only by a basic catch, can often be opened quietly from outside. Ground-floor windows at the back and side of a house, hidden from the street, are the most at risk. A keyed lock means a window cannot be opened without breaking glass, which is noisy and something most intruders avoid.
